Finance Director

Are you a finance professional looking for a broad-ranging role that also creates social value? We are looking for a Portfolio Finance Director who is able to support a range of social enterprises and charities with all their financial management and strategy needs.

As a senior leader within our multi-skilled team of accountants, bookkeepers and specialists, you will take responsibility in ensuring we provide a bespoke high-quality finance service to some of our amazing clients. Experience of working within the not-for-profit sector or service sector would be advantageous, as would good communication skills and the ability to work autonomously, manage priorities, and problem-solve.

As you will be working across a portfolio of clients, you can expect a highly varied and challenging role that covers strategy and consultancy work, identifying and implementing operational improvements for systems, processes and financial controls, and ensuring a high-quality team operation across financial reporting and financial transactions.


Responsibilities:

  • Work with organisational stakeholders at all levels: board, leadership teams, budget holders, and all staff, to improve financial understanding and decision-making
  • Delivering excellent financial reporting and timely ad-hoc financial reports to help our clients make effective decisions
  • Delivering financial projections, scenario modelling, long-term financial planning and financial strategy advice to clients
  • Support our clients with business planning for funding bids and investment opportunities
  • Improving financial controls, systems and processes
  • Oversee and review monthly management accounts and cash flow forecast
  • Lead and run the annual budget-setting process
  • Oversee and review the balance sheet and ensure control accounts are reconciled
  • Preparation of annual accounts in line with regulatory standards, including the Charity SORP
  • The ability to understand, challenge and support the decision-making of values-led organisations, where mission-led outcomes balance with financial goals.

Skills:

  • Accountancy qualification and significant post-qualifying experience
  • Ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines
  • Good communication skills, able to work with a broad range of clients and colleagues
  • Ability to work autonomously and problem-solve
  • Knowledge of what a strong financial controls environment should look like
  • We are Xero partners and seek to be at the forefront of the digitalisation agenda
  • Experience of cloud accounting and IT adaptability are both important
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience of other Microsoft Office suite applications
  • Ability to work with others to distribute tasks and delegate responsibilitie
  • Ability to coach and train others
  • A positive attitude, willing to take on new challenges and learn new skills
  • Leading and managing within the Adding Value Consultancy team, influencing how the business develops and grows.
